What is the legitimate personal psychology behind the spiritual 'phenomenon' of the "old soul"?

I don’t know if this will answer your question or not.
An old soul is the result of much wisdom. Wisdom is not usually a sudden gift, but one that comes as the result of many years of deep contemplative thinking.
When you are dedicated to understanding you make understanding an art form and your thinking is actually as much a pleasurable past time as any other pleasurable past time can be. But it is also wrought with difficulties as all things are.
For the dedicated thinker who yearns for the knowing and understanding of life’s mysteries and the mysteries of the universe, often times, personal emotions get in the way, personal feelings, opinions and judgments also cloud the objectifying process.
But sometimes too, the information itself that you are using as the food that you will analyze and contemplate is confounding.
Despite it’s challenges, as you travel the journey of intrinsic knowing, you will find you are also traveling through the dimensions of the mind.
Each state of mind is its own dimension, you see.
As a matter of fact, all of your mental experience on earth is a state of changing mental dimensions. It is not time that passes at all, it is the mental dimensions that change.
We are not the sum of our bodies. We are our minds. We only borrow the body so we may use its senses to gather multi-dimensional information.
We, at our essence are only of one dimension. But the earth is of many dimensions because it is made up of many planes.
These planes are the planes of the senses; sight, sound, touch, taste, smell, feelings, emotions, illusions, logic and reasoning.
As we go through life, if we engage our mind and dedicate ourselves to our mental development, we will be intentionally thoughtful and reflective, we will be intentionally analytical and we will be deep thinkers and as we pass through the dimensions of the mind from the innocent and unknowing through the stages of learning to the stage of accumulated knowledge, we will begin to sound and even look like an old soul because we have truly been on a journey that has been akin to living many lifetimes.
All the secrets of the universe are actually all the knowledge of all time that has ever been recorded in the conscious universe. To uncover this knowledge makes you seem old indeed.

By contemplation and self-surrender I have been and still am seeking unity and wholeness with the divine and the spiritual knowing of truths that are beyond the human intellect. I am in daily communication with the House of Christ, I channel other spirits, I receive and still seek higher knowledge and higher understanding of the mind and creation. Therefore, I call myself a mystic.

Why has neuroscience not settled the question of free will?

All of man’s science is based on physical proof. What physical properties does the will have? Can you hold it in your hand? Can you pour it on to your cereal? Have you ever heard/read of any doctor, especially a surgeon who removed the will of a patient when they removed their tonsils? Performed a heart transplant, Removed a bad kidney, removed gall stones or performed brain surgery? Human science will not find the physical evidence of the will nor will they ever produce the physical proof of a spirit. (Even though ghosts can be captured on cameras. Technology makes this evidence speculative and open to interpretation.) Human science will also never produce a mind or the thoughts that a mind contains. Human science is limited, finite and incomplete because man’s vision is also limited by his blind refusal to open his limited mind to a universe of possibilities that exists beyond the physical realm.

Is Divinity a gift or that which is already within you?

Thank you for your question. I will not say that divinity is not already within you but we may not perceive, interpret or understand divinity in the same way. My understanding of divinity is a sublime state, a superior state, a state of perfection and holiness.
