What does it really mean to have a "direct experience" of something in mysticism? What are some of the characteristics of it?

I can only tell you of my experience. To have a direct experience is to have a mental experience; a conscious experience. The experience fills your mind but because the experience is so exquisite, it also feels as if it is filling your body. This is due to the effects of consciousness. All the cells of your body are conscious, so all are being activated. For me, my senses are very high; very open as is my awareness. At first, in the early days of my mystic travels, I was immersed and transfixed in the conscious planes I would arrive at. Today, I am able to travel and yet engage my lower mind that reasons out what I am experiencing. For me, the experience has been life changing. My physical life has not changed, but all of my feelings about life as well as my attitudes toward life has changed. What attracted you to mysticism?

To be honest, I wasn’t attracted to mysticism. I work as a scribe for my sister, who is a psychic. She gives readings to people (palm and soul) and she investigates haunted properties and assists in finding missing people and solving cold cases for law enforcement. When it came to fill out my profile on Quora, because I do not feel I am a psychic as my sister is, I did not want to put down psychic. I was really confused as to what I am until I read a question that said, “Why do you call yourself a mystic?” I liked the word “mystic” and looked it up. The Oxford Dictionary defines a mystic as: a person who seeks by contemplation and self-surrender to obtain unity with or absorption into the Deity or the absolute, or who believes in the spiritual apprehension of truths that are beyond the intellect.
