One of my family members can "turn off" their thinking and have stillness in their mind but has never meditated. What is this state called and can everyone reach this point?
I have done this randomly for years without any planning, intention or forethought to do it, so to me, it is natural but I have not investigated the human term for it. I call it “zoning out” because I am out of the earth’s zone of consciousness.
I am a self-trained explorer of the conscious universe with emphasis on the planes outside of the physical plane.
I assume everyone can do it.
While I say, I did not seek it intentionally, and this is true, I have sought to leave the physical world intentionally. However, in the early days of my travel, I did not have an understanding of what that would entail. In other words, I was not intending to alter or leave my lower mind (lower consciousness.) I should also tell you, I have always asked God to guide me in such things.
While I am not religious (there is no church I attend or belong to, I do not light candles or perform rituals or pray) I do speak to God and through my intentional journey, I have connected with Christ Consciousness.
I tell you this only to explain what I do, how I do it and what my intention is when I am traveling.
I know of others who do not have a goal, plan or idea of any destination. They seek to
make contact with ghosts and demons and are more wrapped up in the media hype about the paranormal.

A true interest in traveling the conscious planes is a very serious endeavor and one that will take a life time if you are sincere about understanding this universe. There are many aspects to it and your family member has discovered one of them without intending to.
If the plane is the one I have experienced, it is beyond time and space; an empty void that transcends all physical matter. When I am there, I feel my mind is erased.
When I return to my lower consciousness, I am always intact, but I experience more peace and also a feeling of being mentally rested and serene.
